Bon Jovi, a household name which hardly requires an introduction, embarked on their 2017 tour dubbed This House Is Not For Sale. The band performed in San Diego on March 5, 2017 at the Viejas Arena. On the stage a black backdrop was incorporated, creating a simple stage setup with the focus revolving around just the band. One accent added were the multiple fluorescent white stage lights which flashed onto the stage and out into the audience covering the guests in waves of shining light, adding to the rock and roll musicality of the atmosphere. In all black, yet each individually unique rocker attire, all the band members conjured the crowd up to their feet with one of their most noteworthy songs “Shot Through the Heart.” Towards the last lines of the song, lead singer Jon Bon Jovi paused, stretching his hands up into the air and allowed the audience to belt out the last lines together.
Although the band may be lacking their wild and long locks they claimed back in the 1980s, certainly they do not lack in maintaining an electrifying stage persona. Jon Bon Jovi commanded the microphone jamming alongside fellow bandmates and clearly soaking up the energy by even throwing in his own dance moves. After his first few songs, Jon Bon Jovi took a short break expressing his gratitude in being back in San Diego after quite some time. Next, the group played “Lost Highway,” a song from one of their later albums. During the tune, the staging became a bit calmer with soft orange lights illuminating the platform as he strummed on a black acoustic guitar. After the stage went dark for a song change to “Born to Follow,” Jon Bon Jovi reemerged to take a moment to introduce a few members in the band: Tico Torres on the drums, on bass guitar Hugh McDonald who was a studio musician for the Runaway album, and the new face of a percussionist from New York. Even though the band is not composed of all original members, the current mix still created a flowing sound no less authentic than the originals. Following the song he took a moment to inform audiences about the 17th album they created: This House Is Not For Sale which came out an extensive 34 years after their first album debuted in 1983. Continuing, he revealed that their new single “Rollercoaster” reached a spot in the top songs chart.
Overall, the recognition moment for the band seemed like an ultimate celebration. Not only did Bon Jovi gain the opportunity to once again tour and showcase a new album, but after multiple decades their songs are still reaching the stars on music charts. Jon Bovi Jovi did not simply thank audiences for coming out, but delivered an emotional message of the band’s gratefulness that their music is still listened to and cherished by multiple generations. He gave recognition to the the fans as the ones who grant them opportunities to continue making music. Closing the show, Bon Jovi concluded with the hit “Livin’ On a Prayer” filling the auditorium with Jon Bon Jovi’s powerful voice, the recognizable melody from the instruments you can’t help but sing along to, and the audience’s voices once again screaming in unison to the timeless song. Unfortunately, the This House Is Not For Sale Tour ended in North America but the Europe, Japan, and Australia portion will continue through July of next year.
