It’s down right impossible to have a Batman based crime Drama without the title character and David Mazouz has done an exceptional job as playing the predecessor to the Dark Knight, Bruce Wayne. While this is a Bruce Wayne audiences are unfamiliar with, due to the time frame in which we see Bruce, it is expansive on the character’s background concerning the highly emphasized relationships with not just Alfred but Jim Gordon as well as other antagonists. The series as a whole has addressed many of the main points of Bruce’s identity, such as the classic origin of his parents’ death, but Fox’s Gotham has been daring in bringing in new story lines that have never before seen the screen. Mazouz brings us into the mind of Bruce Wayne in discussing the true identity of the character as well as the important players in his life as a soon to be Batman.
One unexpected turn that left the audiences astonished was when the evil clone of Bruce was brought into play and Mazouz describes the chance to play 2 identical characters as the opportunity of a lifetime. This direction actually leads into a very popular Batman storyline know as the Court of Owls, taken strait from DC comics the adaptation was interesting and intense for all characters involved. We also received insight on the other end of the spectrum concerning the Bruce and Selina relationship and how Bruce truly wishes to protect her, even though she may not want or need it. Mazouz understands the complicity of the dynamic between Bruce and Selina especially concerning the story arc with Selina’s Mother but we will see how their relationship evolves. The progression of Bruce since the dawn of the show has been incredible and Mazouz notes how the character is Batman at heart and he is slowly discovering his true identity. He notes how the playboy Bruce Wayne is his disguise and teases us that eventually the mask is coming so stay tuned.
