Ben McKenzie

We have our first crack at the protagonist in peril Jim Gordon who is brought to life by the perfect man for the role. Ben McKenzie is no stranger to portraying an officer of the law, having done so in a cop drama on TNT’s Southland, but this time around we see a much more powerful performance. This character is one that has been there from the beginning of the legend that is Batman and McKenzie is doing a great job at guiding a soon to be Dark Knight. After all Jim Gordon has endured throughout the first 3 seasons of Fox’s Gotham it’s hard to imagine how he still remains intact. We have seen him at his highs and at his lows and so we are all biting our nails to see what trouble will find Jim Gordon especially after losing romantic interest Lee Thompkins to the mind-altering virus.

As we have heard from other cast members there has been a gap between season 3 and season 4 of a few months and in that time Penguin has taken over the law in Gotham. He has started his own empire however Jim is still trying to keep his city intact but McKenzie notes how he is alone and not even his partner, Harvey Bullock, is on his side. This will cause Jim to seek out new alliances with Ms. Sophia Falcone, daughter of the infamous mob boss Don Falcone, and so we will see just how this partnership will affect Jim in comparison to the other entanglements he has experienced. McKenzie also talks about how in Gotham even the heroes are not completely pure in that there needs to be a little bit of bad in every hero in order to survive the trials of Gotham. With all of this being thrown at Jim it’s hard to see how the relationship between him and Bruce will evolve, however McKenzie reassures us that it will be present in season 4. We will start to see Bruce move closer and closer towards his alter ego, McKensie even teases us that this season will mark the beginning of his vigilantism and so we wait so see how he does his first time around.
