Robert Carlyle & Colin O’Donoghue

It’s not everyday you get to sit down at a table with Rumpelstiltskin and Captain Hook let alone get to hear how they feel about the dramatic turn in ABC’s Once Upon a Time. Robert Carlyle brings Rumpelstiltskin to life and trickster who could spin straw into gold nand talks about the benefits of the switch in tone for the newest season of the show. The pillaging Pirate known as Captain Hook jumps off the page and onto the screen with the help of Colin O’Donoghue discusses the ambitiousness of the writing behind the up coming season. An unlikely pair of fiendish foes who take us all to the edge of our seats in the live action adaptation of our favorite fairy tales.

O’Donoghue plays a pirate well and does a good job at praising the drastic switch in speed of the show overall specifically noting how Kitsis & Horowitz are brave to do so. With the inclusion of new cast members bringing us new characters breaths fresh air into a series that the fans have come to know and love but the new season will be as O’Donoghue notes, “a new experience” hopefully for the better. With the change in Henry’s age it does beg the question whether or not the classic antagonists aged with him. Carlyle notes how the characters themselves are hundreds of years old and that the few years that Henry has aged affects neither him nor Hook. The game is changing in the world of Once Upon a Time and we are all eagerly awaiting to see where our favorite heroes and villains end up in the new territory.
