The much-anticipated Batman Ninja is not far away and the panel was going off from both the American and Japanese teams chiming in on all the animated goodness this film has to offer. With a powerhouse of reputable animators and voice actors who have voiced some of our favorites it’s hard to touch on them all but alas I will try. Covering a lot of what the film has to offer fans of the character and anime in general we get to hear from the cast and creators about how they brought this film to life with both American and Japanese culture being fused into a visual epic. With so many classic Batman villains and heroes it’s hard to hold back all the excitement that fans are feeling so let’s dive right in!

While Batman is a character that was born in the west this adaptation serves to blend it with Japanese samurai culture but seeing as how the creators were overjoyed at the opportunity it just came naturally without a heavy influence on differing cultures. With a line up of villains that include but not limited to the Joker, Guerrilla Grod, and even Penguin we here about the challenges of including them all but also about the regret of not including more female characters. The Japanese team even expressing the desire to have included the Riddler or Ra’s Al Gul, both of which would have been phenomenal. Due to the fact that we are getting two versions of the film, the original Japanese version and the English version, we hear from Leo Chu that at points it’s directly translated but there were some modifications to the dialog to match how audience would understand the scene. We got to hear from the voice actors who had a lot of fun joking around especially with Tony Hale, who will voice the Joker. After the rest of the cast expressed extreme excitement and honor about the film, Hale joked “I think it’s okay”. Roger Craig Smith who will be voicing our caped crusader noted how visually appealing this film will be, going so far as to say that it will be “a feast for the eyes. The panel wrapped up with favorites scene from each member and even a photo of the audience to send to Japan, unexpected and exciting nonetheless. I’m begging you, please go see this film because it will be a spectacle to be enjoyed by all!

Wonder Con 2018 | Warner Bros Animation | Batman Ninja |
Interviewer: Machelle Noel | Writer: Sean Plundeke
Date: Saturday – March 24, 2018 | Location: Anaheim Convention Center

batmanninja01Witness the Dark Knight as you’ve never seen him before at the first public screening of the highly-anticipated anime film. Batman Ninja takes a journey across the ages as Gorilla Grodd’s time displacement machine transports many of Batman’s worst enemies to feudal Japan – along with the Dark Knight and a few of his allies. The villains take over the forms of the feudal lords that rule the divided land, with the Joker taking the lead among the warring factions. As his traditional high-tech weaponry is exhausted almost immediately, Batman must rely on his intellect and his allies – including Catwoman and the extended Bat-family – to restore order to the land, and return to present-day Gotham City. The visually stunning Batman Ninja will be discussed afterward by the creative team of director Jumpei Mizusaki (Opening animation of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure), original screenwriter Kazuki Nakashima (Gurren Lagann), and character designer Takashi Okazaki (Afro Samurai) and English-language screenwriters Leo Chu and Eric Garcia (Supah Ninjas, Afro Samurai) alongside several of the film’s actors, including the voice of Batman, Roger Craig Smith (Batman: Arkham Origins), Tony Hale (Veep, Arrested Development) as the Joker, Fred Tatasciore (Family Guy) as Gorilla Grodd & Deathstroke, Yuri Lowenthal (Ben 10: Omniverse) as Robin & Red Hood, Adam Croasdell (Reign) as Nightwing & Alfred, Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants) as Penguin and Eric Bauza (The Adventures of Puss in Boots) as Two-Face. Whitney Moore (DC All-Access) will moderate. Warner Bros. Japan, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment bring Batman Ninja to Digital starting April 24, 2018, and Blu-ray Steelbook, Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD on May 8, 2018. | World Premiere of Batman Ninja

As our time ran out with the good people of Unikitty we thankfully got a few minutes with voice actors Eric Bauza and Roger Craig Smith about not just their role on the show but also their upcoming work on Batman: Ninja. We truly valued this one because of the fun that these guys have when talking about all the quirkiness of the show as well as answer a few miscellaneous questions. Who doesn’t love to hear about a voice actor’s favorite pizza toppings and the preference of chocolate, right?

Voicing Master Frown Eric Buaza talks about how it’s easy to voice a character who’s voice is similar to his own and tells us that he enjoys the classic pepperoni dot on his pizza. Roger Craig Smith who voices both Hawkadile and Richard appreciates how different the two characters are from one another but actually prefers the healthier option of veggies on his pizza. Moving into Batman: Ninja Bauza described how his role as 2 Face actually taught him how hard it was to flip a coin oddly enough but Smith, who voices the caped crusader, tells about the honor of voicing Batman. Bauza also says it is a dream come true so be sure to not only tune in for Unikitty but also be on the lookout for the visually stunning Batman: Ninja.
