Actors Rena Owen, Ian Verdun, and Sibongile Mlambo sit down with us to discuss their show Siren, now airing on Freeform.
First, the actors discuss their characters. Rena Owen’s character, Helen Hawkins is a believer in mermaids, considered the local crazy person until the series starts to unfold and people start coming to her for advice. Ian Verdun’s character, Xander McClure, is a local boy, born and raised, a working class fisherman who gets very up close and personal with the mermaid issue because of his job. Sibongile Mlambo plays the mermaid Donna, Ryn’s sister who is captured in the first episode of the series. One point of interest for the actors, and for viewers of the show, is watching how merpeople interpret things in the human world and how individuals understand things differently. The actors also discuss the lack of dialogue in the merpeople’s scenes underwater.
Dive into Freeform’s highly anticipated mermaid drama Siren before it comes to shore on March 29. In this epic tale, the coastal town of Bristol Cove, known for its legend of having been home to mermaids, is turned upside down when a mysterious girl (Eline Powell) appears and begins wreaking havoc on the small fishing town. Using their resources, marine biologists Ben (Alex Roe) and Maddie (Fola Evans-Akingbola) must work together to find out who and what drove this primal hunter of the deep sea to land and whether there more like her out there. Join series stars Eline Powell, Alex Roe, Fola Evans-Akingbola, Ian Verdun, Rena Owen, and Sibongile Mlambo along with creator Eric Wald and showrunner Emily Whitesell for a discussion about bringing mermaid mythology and mystery to television and get a sneak peek of the 2-hour series premiere. | Freeform’s Siren
