Malcolm Barrett

The GeekRock team had the chance to sit down and talk with Timeless’ Malcolm Barrett.

Malcolm Barrett, who plays Rufus Carlin on the NBC show, seems particularly interested with prophetic visions throughout the brief interview. Barrett hints that everything to do with those visions, what they mean, how they work, and particularly how they affect trust between the characters will come to a head by the end of season 2. Barrett notes that, though his character Rufus is an introvert, he keeps growing, learning and re-learning constantly that he has to get out there and fight no matter what he may want to do. Rufus is a fairly comedic character, but Barrett himself rarely improvises the fake names in the show. However, he does improvise riffs and callbacks to past episodes and pop culture, particularly crediting himself with fan service ad-libs. Barrett notes that, although he enjoys the comedy, his favorite part about the role of Rufus is having the chance to explore a hero whose biggest power is his genius. He loves playing such an interesting character, someone who doesn’t want to fight but is forced to. The Bunker team is a family, but they are pressured like few other work-family to deal with each other without being able to talk to their families.
