2018 | ‘How Sweet It Is’

sd-fair.jpgThe San Diego County Fair is an annual event known for its’ fantastic foods, a tradition of full-time family fun of friendly farm animals, widget-gadget exhibit halls, and resonating rides coupled with audacious outdoor activities. This year’s annual theme is: How Sweet It Is. Sweetly themed, this exhibit elaborates on the history of candy, sweets and chocolates. Inside the exhibit, you will find endearing “sweet” memorabilia and things for kids who will want to stick their mouths too. It is an amazing array of “treats and sweets” and there is a store to purchase any of these sweets from long ago and up to present days. For the adults who want an added kick there is an alcoholic candy drink section (Personally, I think the peppermint paddy cocktail is a comforting cool drink to cling your lips to).

For recommendations | I suggest you to get to the fair early and beat the crowd or arrive in the evening to experience a night time live concert on the Grandstage. Look online to choose a day from an array of talented professional musicians. In addition, throughout a day there are 10 various stages which inherently display talent from local performers or out of towners who are of all ages. They will entertain you with no doubt while you munch on a cinnamon churro or sip an ice-cold beer.

The San Diego County Fair is located in delightful Del Mar – and the Toyota Summer Concert series also offers a dinner package for a complete evening of gourmet dining at the famed Del Mar Turf Club, which claims the best seat in the house and a “preferred parking” space. It’s an all-inclusive concert event. But if you have a hankering for the party atmosphere before a show – I suggest you upgrade your experience to the Pre-Concert Tailgate party which includes elaborate appetizers and a chance to win premium seats at your concert.

To observe the whole San Diego County Fair scene without walking, I highly recommend taking the aerial moving chair ride which gently glides you over the San Diego County Fairs’ spectacular grounds.

Or you can jump on the fabulous Ferris wheel to ride and witness the stunning views of the Pacific Ocean while dazing down at the super attractions in the park.

For sampling food endeavors | Please note that every Thursday from Noon to 5pm – they have a Taste of the Fair. Food vendors/booths offer small portions of one of their featured foods for only $3.00. So, if you have a small appetite or you would like to graze by sampling delicious delectable tidbits throughout the fair – this a great way to go! Now, if you are looking for what’s new to eat at the fair there are Lasagna Nachos – highly recommended but must eat quickly to not let it get cold, or the Hot Cheetos Burrito and Waffle fries topped with BBQ beef brisket which eagerly pairs delightfully with a Sour Green Apple Lemonade. And if it’s Gluten Free items that you need to try – check out Roxy’s & Biggies food booths from their succulent selection.

Are you craving a healthy menu then find your way to the Vons’s General Store where they offer nutritional options such as: fruit bowls, sandwich wraps, salads, nut snacks and cold juice. For your children’s delights – look for the “kid’s meal deals” sign at many of the food booths. These deals consist of an entrée, side and drink for $5.99.

Otherwise, just juicily jaw down on a giant grilled turkey leg, or the seafood delicacies at the Lobster Shack – if it’s vegetarian you seek out then dive into Roxy’s robust artichoke sandwich. And at this point, I need to emphasize that there is definitely something for every pallet at this scrumptious fair – just do a little research including your tastebud.

There are also traditional bites from funnel cake, to fried pickles wrapped in bacon. My
personal favorite are the Fresh fried potato chip nachos with extra jalapenos section and fun things for the kids to look at.
