Solo: A Star Wars Story

soloposterWow! What a wild ride! From flashy costumes and train heists to original trilogy callbacks, Solo did not disappoint. It is a fun ride from start to finish, and it kept my attention the whole way through. Despite box office numbers, this movie was an immediate hit for those who saw the fun summer adventure. Ehrenreich’s take on Ford’s Han Solo was phenomenal. He did a fantastic job of capturing the beloved character that we all know and love. Below are my thoughts on this fast-paced movie.

1). Solo is a fun summer film!! You’re going to enjoy this movie, whether you’re a casual fan or a die hard!

2). Alden Ehrenreich did a wonderful job of portraying Harrison’s Han Solo. Everyone was so scared for his acting (as was I), but he actually did a great job! He’s smooth, cocky, and hungry, and Ehrenreich did a great job of portraying those iconic traits.

3). Lando!!! Is there anything Donald Glover can’t do?! I’m genuinely asking! His smooth talking, charming, cheating, and in-it-for-himself personality was perfectly portrayed.

4). CHEWBACCA! I am so glad we finally got to see a Star Wars film where Chewy was a legit main character! Han and Chewy’s relationship was wonderful and it was so fun to see how the two best buds met!

5). DARTH MAUL!!! When I saw this I practically screamed with excitement!! For those who watch the canon TV series Clone Wars and Rebels know that Darth Maul did not die in The Phantom Menance. It made me giggle when I heard people in the theater gasp saying, “What?! He died in Phantom Menance!! How is he alive?!” And to that I say, watch the TV series. They are cannon, and they are actually really great shows!! Having Darth Maul back in the universe is so exciting and makes me wonder if he will show up in Episode lX.

6). I loved how Solo, and even Rogue One, had a lot of characters and plots that are derived straight from the TV series. Characters such as: Saw Gerrera, Aura Sing, Darth Maul, the droid Chopper, the ship Ghost, and General Syndulla.

7). Overall, this film is incredibly fun and exciting. It breaks your heart at times, but also makes you smile with appreciation as you witness how events in the later (first?) series came to be.

Solo is fun and exciting, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t have flaws. Solo was not necessarily an origin film, as it was marketed to be, it was just a film about Han Solo going through a series of events. Han was already Han in this movie; we didn’t learn his motives or why he became the Han we know and love. Also, Solo got his name from an Imperial officer?! I was not expecting that!

Nevertheless, this film was a fun summer flick. It may not have given the back story we all desired, but it gave us more of the scruffy nerf herder that stole our hearts 40+ years ago.
