Ant Man & The Wasp

AntManAndTheWasp5ae770179b3adMagic card tricks, giant salt shakers, colossal ants, and all the new and improved superhero tech you would want from a Marvel movie, you can definitely expect to find in the new film “Ant-Man and The Wasp.” Based on Stan Lee’s comic “Ant-Man” and the first continuation of the original “Ant-Man” film from 2015, the film, directed by Peyton Reed, takes the audience onto an unbelievable excursion to the mysterious quantum realm.

Ant Man and The Wasp” is scheduled for theater release on July 6, as the latest continuation of its previous Ant-Man film. Taking place two years after the events of “Captain America: Civil War” and right before the unfortunate events that take place in “Avengers Infinity War,” Ant-Man gets the opportunity to wear his suit once more and reunites with Hope Pym (played by Evangeline Lilly) who assumes the nickname “Wasp” after her mother whom they are eager to reunite with. The film focuses on Scott Lang (played by Paul Rudd), otherwise known as Ant-Man, attempting to provide help and give safety to his old associates Hank Pym (played by Michael Douglas) and Hope Pym who run into life threatening issues when they start to believe that they can bring back Wasp (Michelle Pfeifer) from the quantum realm.

Scott Lang is placed under house arrest for previous crimes and being unable to leave his home is forced to lose touch with his associates therefore cannot assume the role of Ant-Man anymore. However, after seeing a dream where he is in the body of Wasp he comes in contact with Hank and Hope Pym once again who believe that his dream may be the cause of some type of quantum entanglement Wasp may have put in place when Ant-Man was forced to go into the quantum realm in the first film. This film revolves around their fight to come in contact with Wasp and the obstacles they must face in order to save themselves and those they care about.

There is a lot on the line for Ant-Man and the Pyms in this film. Ant Man could face up to 20 years prison time if he is caught violating his house arrest. The Pym’s are on the run from the law as well and without their special technology to help them stay inconspicuous to the law and the public eye, they too could be facing prison time for their previous offenses.

Although their task seems singular and already difficult enough, no Marvel comic suggests an easy getaway for the hero. In this film, we meet Ghost (played by Hannah John-Kamen), otherwise known as Ava, who is a former weapon of S.H.I.E.L.D who lives her life in the quantum realm. Possessing abilities to travel through walls and disappear and reappear where and when she pleases. Despite Ghost not originally being a female in the Marvel comics, her character is female in the film adding an interesting aspect to what it represents to be a strong female taking out any obstacle in her way with no external help. Despite her antagonist qualities in the film, we come to understand that Ghost is really just an innocent girl of unfortunate circumstance who lost her parents and is desperate for a chance to a pain free and normal life. Therefore, she will do whatever it takes at this point to take her life back before it is lost forever.

Furthermore, the conflict enhances when Sonny (played by Walter Goggins) comes into the story looking to steal an item from Hank that is the single thing imperative to his success in bringing his wife back safely from the quantum realm. Add to that the appearance of Ghost and we have an ever-entertaining triangle of conflict, between Ant Man and his team, Sonny and his henchman, Ghost, as well as some humorous side conflict from their family, friends, and of course, the FBI.

In this film, the audience gets to better connect to the main characters gaining more insight to their personal lives and much needed character development. Scott’s main concern in this film is being a good father to his daughter Cassie (played by Abby Ryder Fortson) and making sure that he is there for her all while balancing house arrest and saving the day. There is also more focus on Hank Pym and his history as a scientist, meeting Bill Foster (played by Laurence Fishburne), an old colleague of Hank who sheds light on what Hank used to be like and why he has become the temperamental and impatient person he currently is. Hope Pym’s character, especially, goes through major changes for the better, becoming an ass-kicking badass saving the day multiple times with little to no help from Ant-Man, and we get to see the two fight alongside each another once more relieving any tension that was there before.

Typical of any Marvel movie, this film is only a buildup to something greater. The journey that Ant-Man and his team take is captivating, inspiring, hilarious, and enormous. Though this film serves a greater purpose than just things quantum related. “Ant-Man and The Wasp” takes place during an interesting timeline where Avengers Infinity War and the events that take place just about coincide. Therefore, this film is that of a portal, hinting at what will come next, and based on the magnitude of this movie, this is just the beginning of something huge.
