This year at Comic Con, all of Team Arrow was assembled to answer questions and interact with the fans in the audience. Stephen Amell (Oliver Queen), Emily Bett Rickards (Felicty Smoke) , Colton Haynes (Roy Harper) , David Ramsey (John Diggle), Echo Kellum (Curtis), Rick Gonzalez (Rene Ramirez), Juliana Harkavy (Dinah Drake), and Beth Schwartz (show runner) were all in attendance. The main panel started off with Beth Schwartz talking about what to expect from the upcoming season. Schwartz is the new show runner for the show. She has been with the show since it’s first season and was recently handed the reins for the upcoming season. There was much excitement and buzz in the room for Schwartz who is rumored to be bringing a new tone to the franchise. Season seven is going to be dark and laced with the theme of redemption. Schwartz did announce that the Long Bow Hunters will be making their way onto the show this season. This villainous group will showcase Red Dart, Kodiak and the Silencer. The heroes of Star City are certainty going to have their hands full this season as Oliver Queen spends his days in prison.
The panel itself was lighthearted with Amell dripping water all over himself, Rickards cracking jokes, and the entire cast struggling to play one truth and a lie. The panel did discuss the future of Arrow beginning with Oliver’s prison sentence. According to Amell, Oliver is no longer a hero. In fact, there is nothing heroic about him in the premiere. Fans, be prepared to be triggered or annoyed. While Oliver faces his sentence, Felicity is forced to amplify her motherly role to Oliver’s son, William. Williams’s storyline this season was said to be extended since he has dealt with so much trauma and loss. Colton Haynes is back and ready to become Roy Harper once again. However, he isn’t the character we are all used to. During the panel, Haynes was quick to tell fans that Roy has changed drastically. In fact, he even admitted to feeling pressured to bring the new Roy to life. There wasn’t much more said about Roys character, but a lot has happened to him since leaving Star City a couple seasons back.
After the panel, GeekRockTV was able to sit down with some of the stars of Arrow for a roundtable discussion. During these roundtables, Stephen Amell shed some more light on Oliver’s prison situation. We are going to see an emotional Oliver who misses his family and is not taking charge and saving people. Amell jokes that he is the complete opposite now. While in prison, he will have to deal with all the enemies he put away as the Green Arrow. The premiere will focus on Oliver’s perspective in prison and have showcase many scenes of Amell shirtless (it’s a running joke). Amell also commented on the upcoming crossover event, which will feature Bat Woman. The details regarding this character are still secret, but we should know what’s happening soon.
We then sat down with David Ramsey who plays John Diggle. This season he is going to make his directorial debut with episode eleven. Ramsey amped our excitement for the shows return when he talked about his characters relationship with Oliver. This season we will find Diggle visiting Oliver in prison. Their relationship is going to be strong like it used to be in past seasons. As a fan, I am personally excited for this because their relationship has been constantly strained in the past. We will also get to explore Diggle’s relationship with his wife, Lyla, the head of ARGUS. In fact, season seven will showcase ARGUS in a new way. ARGUS will be the new headquarters for the Arrow Teams and we will discover whom ARGUS answers to. Everybody answers to somebody… Right?
The final roundtable featured the comedic Emily Bett Rickards and Echo Kellum who play Felicity and Curtis. The pair fed off each other’s humor and spent a lot of time answering questions for each other. We did learn that Rickards wants her character to interact more with Iris, a character from the Flash universe, and that she has stepped up as a mom to William. Meanwhile, Curtis has experienced a lot of love and trauma, but is not backing down from finding his own personal happiness.
There have been no shortage of close calls for Oliver Queen when it comes to protecting his superhero identity, but in the season 6 finale, he was finally backed into a corner and forced to reveal himself to the world as the Green Arrow. Now, Oliver will come face to face with many of the criminals he placed behind bars, as he makes a new home for himself at Slabside Maximum Security Prison. Oliver will find himself vulnerable in a way unlike ever before when a mysterious new enemy begins to unravel his work as Green Arrow, challenging him to redeem his name or risk losing everything. Join the cast and producers to be among the first to learn more about what this means for Oliver and the rest of his team. From Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, Arrow will return to The CW this fall on Mondays at 9/8c. | Arrow
