While the season 2 of the CW’s Riverdale gave fans closure on the identity of the Black Hood, it also left a trail of new questions and conspiracy theories in its wake.
The finale lays the groundwork for new plot lines to be explored in the next season, with some of the biggest ones being former Southside High students relocating to a new school, Hal’s belief that Betty has the same sinister genes in her as ancestors, and arguably the biggest cliff-hanger, the arrest of Archie Andrews for the murder of Cassidy Bullock.
So where does this leave all of our favorite Riverdale characters in the upcoming season?
Actress Lili Reinhart, who plays Betty Cooper, shared that season 3 picks up 3 months after the season 2 finale. The first episode will begin with Archie standing trial for Cassidy’s murder. She also mentioned that our favorite investigative duo turned couple, Bughead, team up to tackle yet another Riverdale mystery in an attempt to distract themselves from the trauma of the Black Hood.
Cole Sprouse, who portrays Betty’s other half Jughead Jones, spilled that fans will get to see a long-awaited Jones family reunion in the next season. Finally, Mom, Dad, Jughead, and Jellybean will be in Riverdale together.
Camila Mendes, who plays Veronica Lodge, will begin season 3 juggling the pressures of school while also running a “cabernet space” for North and Southsiders alike out of Pop’s Chock’lit Shoppe, under the supervision of FP Jones. In addition, Veronica will simultaneously have to deal with navigating the turbulent waters of her private relationship with Archie amidst a public murder trial.
Madeline Petsch takes on the challenge of portraying a recently independent Cheryl Blossom, who is now under the supervision of her new legal guardian Nana Blossom. Season 3 will test Cheryl in unexpected ways as she struggles to find her identity apart from the Blossom family name and continues to explore a budding relationship with recently promoted season regular Southside Serpent Toni Topaz, portrayed by Vanessa Morgan.
The season 2 finale laid the groundwork for multiple plot lines the be pursued in the upcoming premiere that will leave fans on the edge of their seats. The mysteries of Riverdale will continue to unravel when the first episode of the season airs on October 10th.
