Producers

Hit Freeform series Siren producers Emily Wald and Eric Whitesell stop in to talk season 2 with the GeekRockTV team.

The producers are so excited that season 2 of Siren just got upped to a 16-episode season. It provides so much more room to explore the characters and the world! They tell us that they have been researching various siren mythologies from all over the world. They plan on incorporating elements from different mythologies, along with some environmental research in this new season. Between those two additions and what they have going on from last season, we’re in for a wild ride this season! Wald and Whitesell allude to the possibility of Katrina and Levi coming back. They are also particularly interested having the characters work out the differences between siren song and actual love. Wald and Whitesell are excited to answer questions about the Ben/Maddie/Ryn dynamic. Why can’t we have all three of them in a relationship together? Whatever choices happen there, it will undoubtedly be an interesting story to explore, because everyone involved can benefit. Most of all, they are excited to explore new things you don’t typically see on television. Non-human characters bring non-human ideas to the table, which opens up a whole new world of possibility for how those relationships can grow, change, and expand. Lastly, before our producers get pulled away, we discuss Helen’s mermaid powers. Whitesell reveals that she may not be able to transform completely because she has been on land too long. Her awareness and understanding of mermaid culture and sensitivity towards it was always her strong suit. But going forward, there will be new aspects of her to explore!

41Fresh off the heels of their first season, the cast and executive producers of Freeform’s hit mermaid drama Siren make their San Diego Comic-Con debut, recapping season 1 and revealing what fans can expect from season 2.
