DC Super Hero Girls

Already on its 5th season, DC Superhero Girls has been inspiring young and old audiences since 2015. Revolving around the lives of popular teenage heroes, the characters go to Super Hero High where they learn to save the world and unite as a team. The cast is full of familiar faces like Mae Whitman and Tara Strong playing characters like Batgirl and Harley Quinn. The ever-expanding universe has no shortage of favorite characters and is fun for kids and adults alike.

During the 2018 SDCC some of the cast and crew of the show talked about what’s to come for the show and the developmental process of creating it.

Grey Griffin talked about the stoic and fun character of Wonder Woman. Griffin said that she has grown up a bit more this time and is not as naïve. She is also much more in touch with her culture and how it contrasts with Super Hero High. Griffin describes it a lot like an “exchange student feeling” when she is culture shocked by what she experiences.

The foundations of the show stem from the group of people that create it. By being able to understand one another’s humor and visions they were able to work with certain themes and build up the characters to be very multi-layered. From personalities to body-types, they are all unique and have certain strengths they bring to the show.

DC Superhero Girls aims to do more than just cover all of the heroes. Instead, each character has a personal trajectory as well as growth throughout the series. For example, audiences can see how Supergirl must struggle with living in the shadow of her cousin Superman. The crew plans to come back to all the characters depending on how they function in certain episode plots. It’s also possible for special appearances and Easter-eggs throughout the series in order to bring in fan favorites! There’s lots of exciting stuff planned, so tune in to the show on Cartoon Network to watch what happens.

The world may know them as Wonder Woman, Supergirl and Batgirl, but not-so-typical teenagers Diana, Kara, and Barbara, alongside their superhero friends, have much more to deal with than just protecting the citizens of Metropolis from some of the most sinister school-aged super-villains of the DC Universe. After all, being teens is tough enough, what with school, friends, family, and the chaos that comes with managing a social life. But add superpowers and a secret identity to the mix, and things can get a lot more complicated. DC Group editor Marie Javins gives attendees a sneak peek at upcoming books, while producer Lauren Faust and other members of the creative team present a first look at this upcoming series. DC Super Hero Girls is coming soon to Cartoon Network. | Schedule
