In 2018, the Legends of Tomorrow managed to time travel to San Diego to discuss their upcoming adventures with the audiences of Comic Con. The cast of legends included, Brandon Routh (Atom), Caity Lotz (Black Canary) , Tala Ashe (Zari) , Matt Ryan (Constantine) , Dominic Purcell (Mick) , Courtney Ford (Nora) , Nick Zano (Nate), Maisee Richards Sellers (Amaya) , Jes Macallan (Ava), Phil Klemmer (Show runner) and Keto Shimiz (producer). With a show like this, the dynamics are always changing because characters are constantly entering and exiting the series. In fact, only three of the original legends remain today.
There was a lot excitement in the air when Shmiz announced that Tom Wilson will be playing Nate’s father in the upcoming season. As Nate (Nick Zano) lives in the real world, he will be reconnecting with his father. Zano is excited to explore this relationship and get to shoot back the future “stuff.” This season will also be shedding more light on the characters of Constantine, Nora, and Ava. Matt Ryan has played the role of Constantine on many different shows. In order to prepare for this role, Ryan stated that he had always done research by reading comic books (insert cheer here). However, for Legends, he has to go off the book because Constantine’s interactions with these Legends are brand new. This allows him room to grow as an actor, but also room to create new iconic relationships. If Ryan had to guess, his relationship with Mick isn’t going to be the strongest. Meanwhile, the character of Nora has been through literal hell and back. Ever since being possessed by a demon at thirteen, she has not had a normal life. As Courtney Ford discussed, Nora is figuring out who she is this season. Is she good? Bad? Is she the complicated ally or the beacon of light? Jes Macallan is joining the show as a regular this season and is bringing a softer side to Ava Lance. Lance will represent strong woman and structure on the time traveling ship as she has created her own office space.
During the panel discussion, a popular furry character known as Beebo made an appearance. Beebo made the crowd roar as he ran across the stage. At the time, the creators of Legends did not realize that Beebo was going to be such a hit. Now, he is all over bags and merchandise of Comic Con! Underneath the furry costume was Adam Tsehman, who plays Gary Green. Tsekhman jokingly promised that Gary will continue to listen to his boss and follow through with all of his missions in the future (joke). In the midst of the fun, Caity Lotz talked about her character portray of Sara Lance aka the Black Canary. Lotz discussed how Sara represents a fearless leader who is a symbol in the LGBTQ community. She loves her character and comically noted how Sara has been all over the place. This season expect bigger and better stunts from the Black Canary.
Other highlights from the Panel included Tala Ashe discussing her character Zari. Zari is the first female Muslim superhero to be seen on television. Ashe takes her job seriously and is constantly working with the writers to make sure Zari is a symbol of the real world and herself. Meanwhile, the character of Amaya has finally made it home, but will be dealing with a new magical fugitive known as Charlie. She is also going to be acting as her own rebel without a cause this season as she goes on her own missions and finds her true self. During the Q&A portion of the panel, we learned that the cast wants more Legends merchandise for the fans, firestorm and Snart are not coming back anytime soon and that the lingering question of what will Atom learn from Nora exists! More importantly, the Legends are time traveling to Woodstock in the sixties this season! Keep an eye out for the Beetles!
After defeating Mallus by cuddling him to death with a giant stuffed animal named Beebo, the Legends were ready to ease off the gas. That was until Constantine arrived to inform them that, in solving one major problem, they have created another, much larger one. When the Legends let time crumble in order to release and defeat Mallus, the barrier between worlds softened. History is now infected with “Fugitives,” magical creatures from myths, fairytales, and legends. Having been expelled throughout time by people like Constantine, these Fugitives are now returning to our world in droves and making a real mess of things. So when all hell breaks loose, who ya gonna call? That’s right, the Legends! Join the cast and creators of The CW’s zaniest superhero series at their annual Comic-Con panel for an in-person look at what makes this time-traveling crew tick. From Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will return to The CW this fall on Mondays at 8/7c.
