“What to do, what to do, what to do” – It’s Christopher Robin’s (Ewan McGregor) big dilemma and he’s all grown up. Christopher is dealing with the daily struggles of working long hours, a boss, Giles Winslow (Mark Gatiss) who is a strict and heartless task master. His life is made up of trying to juggle his work while not to neglect his devoted wife, Evelyn (Hayley Atwell), and loving daughter, Madeline (Bronte Carmichael). Completely dedicated to his work, he decides to also help the employees in his department by figuring out a way to keep their jobs from being cut through the tough turbulent economic times. But he has lost his cheerful way of life and does not realize how his family life is suffering through his sadness. That is – until his old childhood pal, Winnie the Pooh turns up in London and steps back into his life. “Pooh, you’re here!”
This story is created and based on characters by A.A. Milne and E.H. Shepard. It is a sequel to the classic story of “Winnie the Pooh”. They are memorable furry adorable stuffed animals who come to life and onto the screen in life-like animation. The story takes a turn when “Pooh” (Jim Cummings) convinces Christopher Robin to head back to the Hundred Acre Wood and help him find his lost friends, Eeyore (Brad Garrett), Tigger (Jim Cummings), Owl (Toby Jones), Piglet (Nick Mohammed), Rabbit (Peter Capaldi) and Kanga (Sophie Okonedo).
This pivotal moment brings back all of Christopher Robin’s childhood memories that were once forgotten and gone from his thoughts. It had been a time when the simple life he lived in Sussex as a child was of a mythical magical world of figuring out “nothing”. He loved to say, “What I like best is doing nothing”. It was a world of dangerous “wozzles” and “heffalumps “in a countryside full of fun and make believe with his best friend, Pooh and the other heartfelt stuffed animal characters. Christopher was often a savior to them all.
But what a conundrum Christopher finds himself in this time – All because he told Evelyn, his wife, and daughter, Madeline, that he had to stay home to do very important work. He did not want to run into his wife and daughter who took off for a summer vacation to his childhood home (at Hundred Acre Wood) and confuse them by having to explain why he was there with his long-lost friends.
But, “It’s always a sunny day when Christopher Robin comes out to play”, as Pooh says, and his old childhood friends, Tigger, Eeyore, Owl, Piglet, Rabbit and Kanga celebrate his arrival – after they figured out – that it is really him. Conflicts do arise, once Christopher Robin realizes that he needs to get back to work with his important papers to save the employees jobs – and EVERYONE scrambles to get back to London to help save the day.
These adorable childhood chums from the past bring Christopher Robin a whole new way to look at life and how to find the joy in what keeps love in the heart.
I find the heartfelt moral in this timely story to be: how essential it is to rediscover the delight found in time spent with family, to nourish and treasure great friendships and to remember and appreciate the simple pleasures in life.
