Coco

index1456Vibrant colors, gorgeous music, and rich Mexican heritage meet in the Oscar-winning Pixar movie, Coco.

Though his family forbids all music, but Miguel (Anthony Gonzalez) dreams of being a musician. On Dia de los Muertos, he breaks into the tomb of his idol, who he believes is his great great grandfather, Ernesto de la Cruz (Benjamin Bratt), to steal a guitar so he can play in the local talent show. Instead, Miguel finds himself in the land of the dead, forced to find de la Cruz and get his blessing to return home. He stumbles across another lost soul, Hector (Gael Garcia Bernal), and they make a deal to help each other out: Hector will help Miguel get to de la Cruz, and Miguel will put up a photo of Hector on an ofrenda when he returns home. Their mission gets more complicated with every turn. Several dramatic revelations later, the movie ends with a bittersweet, very satisfying musical finale.

Coco is bursting with life. Impossibly bright colors and infectious melodies add to a story that has touched the hearts of audiences worldwide. Themes of family, love, belonging, and following your passions resonate for kids and adults alike. Incredible world-building combined with a masterful visual style makes the movie a joy to watch and to experience.

Original music and new versions of traditional Mexican folk songs bring a whole new layer of awe-dropping splendor to this masterpiece of a movie. It could work without the music, but why would we want it to when the soundtrack is so memorable and fun to sing along with?

Coco won two Oscars at the 90th Academy Awards: Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Song for “Remember Me (Ernesto de la Cruz)”.
