LACMA stands for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and if you are looking for a great adventure in Southern California, then this should be your first stop. LACMA has been devoting to collecting works of art that show both the rich legacy and cultural melting pot of this great nation. With a collection reaching more than 135,000 objects all reflecting 6,000 years of history, LACMA attracts over 1.5 million people – all coming from around the globe to experience the numerous programs, beautiful works of art and breathtaking landscapes to take the best selfies this side of Hollywood.
If you happen to be going anytime soon, be sure to check out the new exhibitions in 2018. “To Rome and Back: Individualism and Authority in Art, 1500-1800” highlights the 2,000-year history of Rome, signifying the moments in early Modern Europe and revealing the depth of Rome’s impact in every aspect. “The Chiaroscuro Woodcut in Renaissance Italy” is another new exhibit which ends in mid-September and focuses on chiaroscuro woodcut, a printing image from two or more woodblocks inked in different hues which was first introduced in Italy in 1516. This eclectic exhibit explores the depth and beauty and will sure not disappoint. And lastly, David Hockney’s “82 Portraits and 1 Still-life” is my personal favorite, showing a vibrant and unique view of everyday people with which Hockney has gotten to know over the past 50 years. Hockney describes this journey as a “20-hour exposure” and painted anyone, from friends and family to members of his staff. This exhibit is truly a vulnerable experience as you see the raw imperfections of a person that in fact make them perfect.
If you want to see some beautiful art work, have a fun family outing for a reasonable price or just create a memorable date night, I would highly recommend LACMA. You won’t be disappointed.
