The Amazing Spiderman 2

13905072103_d16773bf4c_bAndrew Garfield returns to the silver screen, back in his all-too-familiar red and blue web-slinging suit to save the day. This second installment to The Amazing Spiderman series follows the graduation of both Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) and Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), a few months after The Lizard incident that nearly plagued New York City with a mutagen transforming human beings into lizard monsters. However, during the fight against The Lizard, the passing of Gwen’s father (Denis Leary) shows the consequences of Peter’s double life. With a conflicting promise to stay away from Gwen, per the request of her late-father, their relationship is yet again put to the test. However, in the midst of their troubled love, another problem arises for Spiderman. A timid OsCorp scientist, Max Dillon (Jamie Foxx), finds himself in a peculiar instance where his obsession with Spiderman- after a brief moment of being saved- and the cruelty of his work environment, causes an electrifying accident that changes Max’s world forever. After discovering the length of his powers, along with his quiet simmering rage, Max turn into New York’s newest supervillain, Electro. As Peter now faces this new threat, he is forced to come to terms with an old friend from the past, as well as new changes for his future.

The newest addition to Spiderman’s story takes a much darker turn in this sequel. Although Jamie Foxx’s portrayal of Electro makes for a fun, yet deceivingly powerful adversary, Peter Parker’s biggest struggle proved to be those of his own demons. This sequel dives deeper into Peter’s history, unraveling as the history of his family and the consequences they share reveal themselves to the audience. The Amazing Spiderman II is a fresh new take on the superhero story, and can be enjoyed by audiences of all ages.
