Seeking the help from a confused Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd), who reluctantly helps repair the DeLorean in 1955. On his way back to 1985, Marty discovers that the original Doc had been transported to 1885, where he stayed stranded due to the lack of fuel. Once they travel to 1885, in the wild west, Marty discovers that Doc had been killed by Biff Tannen’s great-grandfather, Buford (Thomas F. Wilson) six days prior to his arrival, Jumping back a few days before Doc’s death, Marty finally reunites with Doc after meeting his great-great-grandparents and a deadly run in with Buford. The two then work together to find an alternative for fuel, coming the conclusion that a locomotive may be the necessary substitute. Along the way, the duo rescue Clara Clayton (May Steenburgen), who quickly falls in love with Doc; as their romance buds, Doc unfortunately realizes that in saving Clara, he has altered history. Meanwhile, Buford finds Marty and antagonizes him into a showdown; in doing so, Doc’s life seemingly is saved, but Marty’s life was now on the line. Doc quickly devises a plan to deceive Buford into thinking he wins the showdown, and the duo escape. Clara, who had been stunned with disbelief that Doc and Marty were time-travelers, ends up joining them in their escape from 1885. As Marty returns to his correct timeline, prior to all the time-traveling, he makes all the right moves to avoid any negative events that would greatly affect his and Jennifer’s future (Elisabeth Shue). After the two of them inspect the remains of the now powerless DeLorean, Doc and Clara appear with a locomotive equipped with a flux capacitor, along with two children of their own. As they reassure the young couple that their futures are now in their hands, waiting to be written, the time-traveling family disappears into an unknown pocket of time.
