It’s always an event to get a new Disney princess, but one as unique as Moana is truly cause for celebration. “If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me, one day I’ll know, if I go there’s just no telling how far I’ll go” – Moana.
Moana (Auli’I Cravalho) is the chief’s daughter on the Polynesian island of Motunui. She is trained by her parents to lead her fellow islanders when she herself becomes chief, but Moana only ever wants to travel the ocean. She wants to sail away and see what exists beyond their island. The only problem? Her father has forbidden her to leave the island. When the fishermen stop catching fish and the crops stop bearing coconuts, Moana takes it upon herself to leave the island, and solve their food problems by restoring the heart of the benevolent goddess of life, Te Fiti. First, she needs to recruit the demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson) to help her on her journey. With Maui’s help, Moana embarks on the adventure of a lifetime.
Moana is a heartwarming story about a girl who will stop at nothing to follow her dreams. The empowering message to young girls across the world, combined with the musical genius of Lin-Manuel Miranda (creator of Hamilton) makes for an unforgettable movie. Families will love watching this over and over again.
