Batman vs TMNT (Movie Review) by Danielle B.

IMG_4656COWABUNGA! This animated mash up of Batman’s family and the family of the Ninja Turtles are an adventure that kids and older audiences will appreciate. As someone who can recall old cartoon episodes of the Ninja Turtles, this animated film has that nostalgic for fans and their memories with the turtles, as well as for fans of Batman. The popular turtles are voiced by Eric Bauza as Leonardo, Darren Criss as Raphael, Baron Vaughn as Donatello and Kyle Moony as the entertaining Michelangelo. Troy Barker plays both Batman and Joker, Andrew Kishino as The Shredder, Rachel Bloom as Batgirl, and Ben Giroux as Robin. Other famous actors such as John DiMaggio play as Mr. Freeze, Tara Strong as Harley Quinn and many others who helped make this film funny and entertaining. Although it is funny and entertaining, two important lessons stood out that audiences will surely appreciate.

The Ninja turtles are in Gotham to track down The Shredder and it appears that he is working with Ra’s Al Ghul. The Ninja turtles and Batman along with Damian Wayne-Robin and Batgirl who face the many villains from the Joker, Dr. Harley Quinn (She is not a nurse folks, she received her Doctorate’s degree. Joker should know that!), Two-Face, Poison Ivy, Bane and Mr. Freeze. The team had to go through them first before taking down Ra’s and The Shredder. Not forgetting, the Penguin who also makes his appearance. The main goal is to prevent Ra’s and The Shredder to prevent from spreading “ooze” that will turn the people in Gotham into animals and end up harming one another. While working together, two lessons in this film are channeled to Batman that audiences will notice.

Batman has a specific way of doing things his own way. One of the lessons is that sometimes it’s okay to have fun, be relaxed compared to being serious and brooding all the time. The Ninja Turtles are more fun and a little silly, especially Mikey. What stood out to me is Rafael who actually told Batman the importance of working with other people. This is the second lesson shown in the film. Raphael stated that he understands how Batman feels about being the only person to take down evil. He said that even though him and his brothers don’t always get along and he sometimes goes his own way, he realizes that being alone gets him into trouble. No one is perfect and people make mistakes and may not do things the way one thinks/or expects for others to act accordingly. But it is important to have trust and to get better especially with your family. Learning how to understand the mistakes together with family is how a family is able to work together efficiently. Batman looks over at Alfred, Batgirl and Robin and realizes that Rafael’s right. Together, both families of Batman and the Ninja Turtles take down the Shredder and Ra’s. However, the ending showed us a teaser of the Joker. Maybe a part two will be something fans can expect?

This film is filled with funny moments, action scenes, and lessons that will leave an impact towards kids and older audiences. This film is hilarious and a great film for the family and kids. It made me smile and laugh. As I looked at Leo, Raphael and Donnie, I couldn’t help but question, ‘Why do they make me think of Dick Grayson (Nightwing), Jason Todd (Red Hood) and Tim Drake (Red Robin)?’ For those who are unfamiliar, Dick, Jason and Tim were the first three Robins that Batman had before Damian Wayne. Nightwing and Leo’s colors are blue, they’re leaders, and are popular characters. Red Hood and Raphael’s colors are Red and have a similar attitude. Red Robin and Donnie are both smart. I couldn’t help but chuckle at this comparison. I’m not the only one who thinks this right? If you have the chance to watch this film, go see it!
