Mike Lane, played by Channing Tatum, started his own furniture business after his previous adventures with his dancer friends. He is now the very proud manager of… one employee. After struggling for a long time to maintain this business, he has decided to start bartending at private events.
One afternoon, bartending at a charity event, Tatum meets Maxandra Mendoza, played by Salma Hayek Pinault. She is the host of this very private and exclusive charity event. She has been told by some of her friends that Tatum used to give private dances, and at the end of the event, she asks if he would be willing to do that again, for her. He is flattered but says no. She offers to pay him and he throws out an extravagant number of $60,000. Mendoza says no but offers $6,000. Mike takes it and the steamy romance begins. At the end of the night, they do have sex, even after they had agreed not to earlier.
Later, Mendoza offers Tatum the $60,000 again, but this time in return for him coming along with her to the United Kingdom, under the title of her boyfriend. He agrees and the two are quickly whisked away on an adventure that will inevitably lead to them falling deeply in love with each other.
Whilst in England, Mendoza has many surprises in store for Tatum. The largest of all is the offer to have him direct a new show at her ex-husband’s family theater. For years, the only running show there has been Isabel Ascende, a tale of a young woman having to choose between marrying the rich aristocrat or the poorer man with the big heart. Mendoza wants to spice things up and bring in male exotic dancers, completely stripping back the old theater, quite literally.
The two bond over creating this new show. They hire new dancers, create choreography and blend in romance throughout the show and between themselves. They even jump through various legal hurdles created by Mendoza’s ex-husband in order to stop the show from ever being performed. In the end, Mendoza gives up, thinking it really won’t work out and the risk is just too high. Tatum disagrees, completes the show, and it is finally put on the stage for all of the public to see. He even creates the final number as an homage to his and Mendoza’s love over the past few months. Mendoza see’s the show and is overcome. The two unite at the end of it, and say the magic words, “I love you”.
This movie was one of the best so far in 2023. The spark between the two main characters was steamy and romantic. The rest of the cast was fantastic, and only added to the storyline. The plot was consistent and really made the viewer feel like they were living within the fantasy itself. While the movie was about male strippers, and at times felt scandalous, it still held enough space for deep and heartfelt moments. This third and final movie in the series felt like the modern addition that it needed. If Channing Tatum, with all his ample knowledge on women and knowing what they want, wrote a movie, this would be it. Magic Mike’s Last Dance is a must see.
